Newton's First Law of Motion

The First Law of Motion states that an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion at a constant velocity unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. It is also known as the Law of Inertia.

    Here are some examples:

A skate boarder is riding down a steep hill. He hits a large rock and his skateboard stops moving. The rider flies off the skateboard and lands 20 meters in front of his board.

A punter must kick the football in order to get the football moving.

A communication satellite continues its orbit above Earth indefinitely.
